On a health kick or simply just looking for a healthy drink to get you through summer? Look no further than Taste the Tea’s Pina Comatcha recipe, a healthy matcha based smoothie that’s a twist on the classic Pina Colada cocktail. What more could you ask for?
-1.5 tsp of Eat Clean Ginger Matcha
- Handful of Pineapple
- Handful of Apple
- Handful of Spinach
- 100ml Coconut Milk
-Optional Chia Seeds (add for additional protein intake, but note an additional 50ml of coconut milk or water should be added)
I know what you’re thinking, how can this be a real recipe if you don’t tell me how much to include… Like I said at the beginning, this is a healthy summer recipe designed to enable you to eat better. Every person is different so this recipe aims to recognise your individual needs. In most cases, a portion to suit your body is roughly a handful, therefore by measuring the fruit and veg required for Pina Comatcha in this way, you should be getting the exact amount required to count towards 3 of your 5 a day! However, to give you an idea, this created 330ml of smoothie for me.
So how do you make it? Well… it’s simple, just chuck it all in a blender, pour into your favourite glass, sit back, relax and drink.
Eat Clean Matcha
The matcha is premium/ceremonial grade, which I found to be great quality, providing a light green tea taste and a lovely frothy texture. Although, I was a unsure of how flavoursome the ginger matcha would be and was worried I might need some additional ginger, I soon realised I had nothing to worry about. Amazingly, upon opening the packet the smell of ginger is incredibly distinct. When drinking Pina Comatcha, there is a nice Caribbean style ginger kick in the finish, which follows the sweet, creamy pineapple and coconut. Due to the natural sugars in the fruits, there is no bitterness that can sometimes accompany matcha. YUM.
The combination of ingredients in Pina Comatcha creates an immunity boosting, fat burning smoothie. How you say?
Well, matcha, like all other forms of tea, contains caffeine, but it is released at a much slower rate, providing a lasting and even release of energy. When combined with ginger, the two become some kind of power couple, helping to increase metabolic rate, therefore assisting in burning fat. Pineapple and apple can aid digestion, due to being full of fibre and water, whilst chia seeds and coconut milk provide a little added protein and spinach an iron boost. Finally, Pina Comatcha contains not one or two, but four superfoods; Ginger, matcha, spinach and chia. If you haven’t heard yet, superfoods are awesome because they contain higher levels antioxidants and lots of nutrients, helping to give your body an immunity boost. Matcha itself contains approximately 137 times more antioxidants that a standard cup of green tea. Yay for green tea, good food and eating clean :)
